The story all begins with Noodles and Kyle meeting up the day Kyle got out of prison in Buenos Aires, Argentina for attempting to move twelve kilos of drugs out of the country. Noodles gets him back in contact with his ex Jessica, which is mistake number one. She was one hell of a girlfriend, something you never forget, but not in a happy way.When he meets up with her the next day, he learns of some life altering information that changes everything. Besides being a mother now, she's also addicted to coke and going no where with her life. And to top it all of she owe's a drug dealer a large amount of money.
Kyle tries to be a nice guy and help her out, but it seems he only screws himself with every new move he makes. That is until he meets up with Marcello, a mobster who can control basically everything including the police. That's when the situation is taken control by Kyle and Marcello's gang of hit men.
It all ends with Kyle's life being changed in a way he never saw coming. Maybe it was for the best, he needed responsibilities and someone to have someone there that relies on him to keep his s*** together.
Wow, what a adventure you'll be taken on when you read of Kyle's story. The pain, the gore, the frustration this man felt was overwhelming for me, which only caused me to read this book, four hours, deep into the night. I had to find out what was going to happen with Kyle and how everything was going to play out around him. What did Jessica need to tell him so bad? Why does trouble follow him, and he's only been out of prison for one day.
The author really knows how to put a story together. I especially enjoyed all the gore and violence, which is clearly written by a man. If I have one complaint it would be the overuse of all the slang words. I understand that we're talking about gangster's here, but the misspelled slang words were distracting. At least they were consistent though, they all talked exactly how I imagined Mexican gangsters to talk. I give this book 5/5.

Connor delivers a pleasantly gritty, shocking, and intelligent story. This is an engaging action-thriller that was hard to put down. Kyle, someone ready for a quiet life, is thrust into a high-velocity adventure where the lives of those he cares for hang in the balance. Through the love is his newfound son, Kyle is compelled to rise above to find his true calling.

Destiny Calls is an action packed page turner. It's a short easy read that grabs your attention right from the beginning and leaves you wanting more. It contains a lot of sex, drugs and violence and the colorful language that goes along with them. This is book is geared more towards a male audience but I still really enjoyed reading it.
This novel will keep you wondering what is going to happen next to the very end! This is not the type of book I normally read, and I am probably a bit like the author's grandma (as he describes in the acknowledgments at the end), in that some of the language and content is a bit much for me. ) However, I found it easy to connect with the characters, and to want to know what was around the corner for them...and, of course, to root for the good guys! I think there would be a huge market for this story told in a movie, as well.
This was a great book! If you like your bad guys so bad that they are easy to hate, but your good guys......complex and interesting this book is for you. There's lots of black and gray, but not a lot of white! But that is what makes the books. Characters are not two dimensional, but have good traits and bad, but even while you are disapproving of some of their actions you are still cheering them on and hoping things work out for them in the end. If you want a book that you will think about long after you have finished reading it, this is it.
Destiny Calls begins when Kyle is contacted by Jessica, a woman he loves who constantly leaves him for other guys. Against his best friend's wishes he goes to meet her, and discovers that he not only has a son with her, but he's been kidnapped by some people Jessica's managed to get on the wrong side of. After they set off to look for him in a stolen car, things go from bad to worse when another gang comes looking for something they had in the trunk of the car.
The story starts fast and rarely lets up, which kept me eager to turn the pages. The writing is just okay. It's good at conveying a sense of action, but sometimes the choice of words could be better in order to have more of an impact. The book is filled with violence, gore, cursing, etc. Honestly it feels a bit like reading a M-rated movie. It's exciting and moves at a fast pace. The characterization can be transparent, but I still think a good attempt was made to give the characters some flaws and depth (such as the reason Jessica keeps leaving Kyle).
It's not perfect, but it's far from painful to read. Fans of action books and movies, and grittier reads will probably enjoy this.
Destiny Calls, by Connor Gray, is set in Argentina and follows Kyle Saint after his release from prison. Kyle was arrested for drug trafficking. Upon his release, he meets up with his friend Noodles. Noodles helps get Kyle back in touch with his ex-girlfriend Jessica, who's a nothing but trouble junkie. Jessica has gotten herself into some trouble as usual, and being the good guy that Kyle seems to be, he allows himself to be drug into Jessica's mess. Kyle seems to continually dig himself into a deeper pit until one day he meets Marcello, a mobster who appears to be in control of literally everything. Together, Kyle and Marcello figure things out and the transformation to you see in Kyle's character is one that really has you rooting for him!
I absolutely loved this book. Gray does an amazing job at connecting his readers with his characters. I was rooting for Kyle from the beginning, and found it hard at times to put the book down, simply because I had to know what was going to happen next. The book is very well written and is a definite page turner from beginning to end. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good read, and I will be looking forward to reading more by this author.
